Counseling Center

Welcome to the Counseling Center!

At Lorenzo G. Alarcon Elementary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood. I am dedicated to creating a caring and positive environment where students can grow emotionally, socially, and academically. I work hand-in-hand with students, teachers, parents, and staff to help every child thrive both in and out of the classroom.

What We Do

As school counselors, our job is to help children:

·         Navigate Friendships: I guide students in making and maintaining healthy relationships with their peers.

·         Manage Emotions: I teach children how to identify and express their feelings in healthy ways.

·         Build Confidence: I work with students to develop a positive self-image and grow their sense of self-worth.

·         Solve Problems: I help students resolve conflicts, solve problems, and work through challenges both in and out of school.

·         Academic Support: I support students in their learning by helping them develop skills like organization, time management, and study habits.

·         Provide a Listening Ear: I offer a safe space for children to talk about their concerns and feel heard and supported.

How We Support Students

·         Individual Counseling: We meet with students one-on-one to address personal concerns and provide support.

·         Small Group Sessions: We lead small groups that focus on topics like friendship, managing emotions, and building self-esteem.

·         Classroom Lessons: We deliver lessons in classrooms that teach essential life skills such as problem-solving, cooperation, and emotional regulation.

·         Parent and Teacher Collaboration: We work closely with parents and teachers to ensure that each child receives the support they need both at school and at home.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if your child needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

College and Career Readiness

Integrating college and career readiness in elementary school lays the foundation for students' future educational and career goals. This includes fostering a growth mindset, building critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and introducing career exploration through activities like guest speakers and research. Promoting strong academic skills in reading, writing, and math is essential, as well as teaching goal-setting and time management. Social-emotional learning helps students develop emotional intelligence and teamwork skills. By incorporating these elements, elementary students can begin connecting their education to future opportunities, setting them up for success.
